Cabo San Lucas is a well known resort city on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. This is the perfect vacation spot whether you want adventure, to relax, or to eat and drink your way through a vacation. This city is known for its beaches, and let me tell you they don’t disappoint! But there is so much more to do and see! Below are 10 things to do in this tropical destination!
Snorkeling
Cabo has some of the best snorkeling with its clear water and diverse ocean wildlife. There are so many beaches in the area with amazing reefs and ravines to snorkel in. Bring your GoPro as you’ll never know what you’ll see! Below are a couple of my favorite snorkeling beaches! (depending on where you are staying you may need a car or taxi to get there!) If you don’t have snorkel gear or prefer to be with others, Cabo offers many tours that you can take. Cabo Adventures is one of my favorite tour companies in the area, check them out here!
- Chileno Bay Public Beach – This beach technically has its own reef which is why snorkeling here is a must! During the week is it also often less crowded so I suggest going then.
- Santa Maria – This location also has amazing water visibility making it perfect for a snorkeling adventure. This is also a beach where many snorkel trips end up, so if you want to beat the crowds go earlier in the day and reap the benefits of having the fishies to yourself.
Whale shark tour
While on the topic of Cabo’s diverse wildlife, I highly suggest signing up for a tour for an experience of a lifetime! Cabo Adventures offers tours where you can swim with the ocean’s gentle giant, a whale shark! It’s basically like swimming next to a school bus. Check out my blog about my amazing tour with the whale sharks, click here!
Shark Snorkel Tour
If you’re an adrenaline junky and ocean lover like myself, be sure to take a tour where you can jump in the water with sharks! I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions about sharks being man eaters which is why I suggest getting in the water with them yourself. Realizing these apex predators aren’t out for human blood and that they are essential for the lively hood of our oceans is important for the survival of these species. In addition to seeing these magnificent creatures you often get lucky with seeing some other wildlife along the way. We were lucky enough to be able to jump in the water with some orcas! Eat Delicious Food
There are so many places to eat in Cabo that you could go to a new place every day of your vacation. You can also find good food at any price range depending on your budget. Below is a list of places I highly suggest checking out.
- Isabel Restaurant – this restaurant is a quaint spot with delicious and fresh food! Might I suggest their tuna steak. They also often have live music to enjoy while eating your meal. It’s a perfect date night place or a place to go with family/friends. Plus the service is great and the staff is friendly!
- Toro Latin Kitchen and Bar – This place is a must when in Cabo! Although it is on the pricier and more upscale range, it is perfect for a romantic dinner or to celebrate a big event! This restaurant has a gorgeous terrace that is surrounded by gardens while the inside is accented by contemporary art, so there is no bad place to sit! They have a large variety of food to choose from, all of which will appease everyone’s taste buds.
- Villa Serena – whether you want to go out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Villa Serena is a great place to get a good meal. Minus the food being yummy, the restaurant overlooks the ocean resulting in amazing views when you eat!
- La Lupita – located in downtown Cabo, this restaurant should be your go-to taco place! They have a large taco menu with your typical tacos, but also have some unique ones for the more adventurous eater. Be sure to go on an empty stomach as you’ll want to try them all!
- Sunset Monalisa – voted “One of the top 5 coolest restuarants in the world” by the Express Tribune, this is a must-go spot! If you can go during sunset I hightly recommend it as the restuarant sits into a cliff overlooking the bay and the famous Arch. This is also a place that is known for its culinary experience, so if you’re a big foodie add it to your list!
- The Rooftop at The Cape -this rooftop bar is a favorite of mine! It not only is full of lush greenery, but it also has amazing view of the sunsets. This place is great to come for drinks and appetizers, especially if you enjoy handcrafted cocktails. Just be sure to check they aren’t hosting a private event before going!
Bar Hop along the beach
Cabo has some awesome spots along the beach to grab some drinks while soaking up the sun! (but be sure to hydrate and don’t forget your sunscreen!) Below is a list of my favorites:
- The Office – tell your boss you’re at “the office” and go grab a cocktail..and food if you wish too!
- Mango Deck – if you want to relive your college spring break then the Mango Deck vibes are for you! It’s perfect for a fun night out or to cure your hangover the next day.
- Tabasco Beach – this place is set further away from the others which means less crowds and it had more of a local feel. Enjoy their good drink deals while relaxing with your toes in the sand (literally, the tables are on the beach).
- Baja Brewing Co. – do you like beer and nice views? Then Baja brewing is the place to go. It overlooks the bay and has a large variety of beers to try! Plus, can you pass up a 9 beer flight?!
Soak up the sun at the beaches
When in a tropical location, beach hopping is a must! There are many beaches in Cabo so why not explore them all?
- Chileno Beach – like I said earlier this beach is great for snorkeling, but also great just to go and relax. If you have kids, there are some tide pools for them to have fun in and explore.
- Medano Beach – this is Cabo’s most popular beach. It is also a safe swimming beach if you enjoy taking a dip in the ocean!
- Santa Maria Beach – this beach feels more secluded than most and there is plenty of space to spread out making it the perfect location for a beach day!
- Cerritos Beach – this location is a popular surfing spot and has amazing scenery with the cliffs, crashing waves, and magnificent sunsets.
- Lover’s Beach – another one of the most well-known and popular beaches, but also one of the most secluded. This beach is nestled between two rock formations and can only be reached by the water. But don’t worry, it is easily accessible by water taxi, paddle board, or a kayak ride.
Fishing
Fishing is a fun way to spend a day on the water with friends or family. There are several fishing charters available ranging in price and experience so I recommend doing some research and booking the one that suits your needs and budget. Most fishing charters also get visits from some popular locals…the sea lions!
Watch the sunrise/sunset
I must say I’ve watched a ton of sunrises/sunsets in many places and Cabo tops my list as having some of the best! Even if you’re not an early riser, I suggest getting up at least one morning to watch the sunrise. And if you miss that, be sure to stay awake for the sunsets over the iconic Arch. You won’t regret it!
Explore the marina
Cabo has a lively marina that is lined with restaurants and shops. It is perfect to explore during a rainy day or to buy those trip souvenirs! And if you need a bite to eat, but don’t have a lot of time to find a place, head there!
Sunset boat cruise
Whether you are in Cabo for a romantic getaway or on a group trip, you must go on a sunset cruise! Especially if it’s during whale season because you’ll get a sunset and a show! Just like the fishing charters, there are several to choose from so find the one that works best for you! Preferably one with an open bar and food 😉
Cabo is an amazing place and has endless things to do and see! These 10 things will give you an idea of fun things to do that will make your trip an experience of a lifetime! Happy traveling!
