Boston is Massachusetts’ capital city and largest city. Boston was founded in 1630 making it full of history and one of the oldest cities in the United States. Boston is the perfect city for a visit whether it be a long weekend getaway or a week long vacation. There is so much to explore and do that you won’t ever be bored! Visiting Boston no matter the season is a good idea in my mind. Boston has definitely moved up in rankings to one of my top cities in the U.S. Check out places to visit, things to do, and restaurants to eat/drink at in Boston:

Places to Visit/Sights to See

Fenway Park

When in Boston, you must go visit Fenway Park. This baseball stadium is the oldest stadium in the MLB (since 1912!) and is home of the Boston Red Sox. If you’re in town during baseball season, go to a game. If not, don’t worry! They do tours of the stadium for a reasonable price.

New England Aquarium

Located along the water, the New England Aquarium is the perfect place for to spend a few hours learning about marine life. You can touch sharks and rays; go watch the harbor seals; and enjoy the four story coral reef tank!

Boston Tea Party Ships and Museums

At the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, you can learn about history all while having fun! Be a part of a multi-sensory experience that has live dressed-up actors, interactive exhibits, and full-scale replica 18th-century ships! You can opt to take the full tour to get the whole experience or just go to see the gift shop or go to Abigail’s Tea Room and Terrace. We decided on the tea room and got to try all the teas that were tossed in to the harbor during the Boston Tea Party! Plus, you get great views of the ships and city.

Cheers Bar Beacon Hill Location

Whether you’re a fan of the TV show or not, the Cheers bar is definitely still worth a visit! This pub was previously known as the Bull & Finch Pub and is the place that inspired the setting of the show. This is a quaint and intimate bar, but has a lively atmosphere and is a great place to grab a drink. Be sure to head upstairs afterwords and visit the replica of the set of Cheers!

Boston Public Garden

Take a stroll or go for a run through the Boston Public Garden. Located in the heart of the city, this park is beautiful to walk around and explore (even in the winter!). Fun fact: this garden was the first botanical garden established in the United States!

Boston Common

Visit America’s oldest park, Boston Common. This park is full of history. For example, it was the place of Civil War recruitment, anti-slavery meetings, and the park gave most of its iron fencing away to be used for scrape metal in World War II.

Public Library

The Boston Public Library is also a must see. You can go there to study, read, or just to explore. The architecture, art, and design throughout the library is gorgeous! Each room is unique in its own way.

Newbury Street

If you are looking for something to do, visit Newbury Street. This street is eight blocks long and lined with beautiful historic 19th-century brownstones. Newbury Street is full of salons, boutiques, and restaurants. If you are looking for some “higher-end” shopping then this is the street for you!

The Freedom Trail

If you enjoy history, then I highly suggest taking a tour of The Freedom Trail or walking the trail on your own time! The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile-long path through Boston that passes by 16 historical locations of the United States such as Paul Revere’s house and the site of the Boston Massacre. The path goes from Boston Common to the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown.

Boston Harbor Walk

The Boston Harborwalk is a 43 miles public walkway along Boston’s waterfront. You get to see and explore various piers, wharves, beaches, and shorelines. I suggest going early in the morning when the sun is coming up as it makes for some beautiful views.

Places to Eat and Drink

Breakfast/Coffee

Mike’s pastry

Mike’s Pastry was founded in 1946 and has become known for its cannolis that attracts both locals and tourists. Mike’s Pastry is located in the city’s historic North End on Hanover Street. This place has a huge selection of cannolis of all different flavors, plus they are huge! I suggest going on off hours to avoid crowds and lines.

Thinking Cup

Also located on Hanover street, the Thinking Cup is the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee after enjoying your cannoli from Mike’s Pastry. The Thinking Cup’s coffee is high quality and delicious.

Caffe Nero

Caffe Nero has several locations throughout the city and is an adorable coffee shop with food and coffee. It is a great place to read a book, take a midday break, or have a coffee date with a loved one.

Lunch/Dinner

Back Deck

Back Deck is a great spot to grab a bite to eat. This is a casual restaurant known for its charcoal-grilling. They have a large menu with lots of options!

Legal Harborside

When in Boston you obviously need to try some fresh seafood! Legal Harborside is located right along the harbor on the water. Be sure to get a seat with a view! They have a large menu with a huge variety! Boston is known for lobster rolls and clam chowder so be sure to get some, it won’t disappoint.

Clery’s

Located in the historic South End and voted as Best of Boston for neighborhood bars, Clerys should be on your list of places to eat. Clerys is a restaurant, bar, and event space! You can just grab a drink, stay for a meal, or have an event at this venue.

Cask n’ Flagon

Cask n’ Flagon is a well-known bar that is located right next to Fenway Park! They have great drinks, yummy food, and it’s the perfect place to create memories whether you are watching a game or just visiting Boston!

Breweries

Boston has some awesome breweries that I highly recommend going to! Each one has a different vibe and a variety of beers to try. Breweries are great for midday break before continuing to explore, to meet friends at night, or to stop in for a quick drink!

Boston is a lively and vibrant city. I 10/10 recommend visiting this beautiful city one day! If you are traveling around the United States, check out a few of my other blogs related to this awesome country:
