Madrid, Spain’s capital, is a magnificent city that is known for its culture, art, and architecture. We only spent a short time in this city, but I would go back in a heartbeat. Check out 5 sights you can’t miss when in Madrid!

Buen Retiro Park

The Buen Retiro Park is a ginormous park located at the edge of the city center. You can spend hours in this park as it is filled with amazing sculptures, a rose garden, monuments, a lake, galleries, and more! The park is very easy to get to as you walk from the hustle and bustle of the city right to this peaceful park. Have your camera with you, there are tons of beautiful sights at this park! It was my favorite place we visited when in Madrid.

Santiago Bernabéu Stadium

We all know that soccer is HUGE in Europe and even if you’re not a soccer fan, it is definitely worth a trip to visit a stadium. When in Madrid we went to Real Madrid’s stadium and it was a lot of fun! The stadium had exhibits if its history and accolades. We got to visit the locker room, the trophy room, stand on the soccer pitch, and more! Get your tickets here!

El Chapandaz

This place was a recommendation from a friend and it didn’t disappoint. Now if you don’t like adult beverages, this place isn’t for you. But if you like unique mixed drinks I highly recommend trying “Panther Milk” or as it’s called there  “Leche de Pantera”. The best part is that when they make it, part of the drink comes out of one of the structures in the ceiling! This bar is also unique and you feel like you are in a cave as there are stalactites coming from the ceiling. I recommend going on off hours, otherwise you will end up in a crowded bar with people wanting to get rowdy! So if you like avoiding crowds I recommend going early before nightlife starts!

Royal Palace of Madrid

The Royal Palace is obviously a gorgeous building and a must-see. This palace is where state ceremonies, state functions, and official banquets take place. The King does not actually live in this palace as royalty lives in another palace just outside of the city. You have to pay to go inside and there is often a long line to get in so we passed on that opportunity, but I’m sure the inside is just as amazing as the outside!

La Almudena Cathedral

Madrid has several cathedrals throughout the city, but this is one of the more famous cathedrals. This beautiful church is located right next to the Royal Palace in the city so you can kill two birds with one stone and see them both! This cathedral was only opened for the public in the late nineties after being blessed by the Pope John Paul II. This cathedral has a beautiful exterior at every angle you look at it!
